A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals. -Larry Bird (NBA Player)

When I first got into Real Estate I would always hear “Real Estate is the fastest path to wealth!” and “Real Estate is the easiest path to wealth”. This would be followed by images of checks with tons of zero in them.

For me, at least Real Estate has neither been fast nor easy. It’s been an uphill road with plenty of u-turns, dead ends, and potholes.

So, why do people say Real Estate the fastest path to wealth?

The answer is because the path is clear. Everyone else is stuck to the slow rat race path that’s full of traffic.

The sad thing about being on this path is that since no one else is on this road with you it’s hard to tell if you are moving or even going in the right direction. Some times it even seems like you are on the right track but on the wrong train.

For that reason, people fall for getting rich quick tips and other scams that never pan out. I highly suggest that if you feel like I do that you find a mentor or someone who has been where you want to go in real estate (or in life for that matter). Find someone to ride with you on your way train down the track of real estate. It will be like you have your own personal GPS to keep you going and help you avoid having to jump trains. I met my original mentor on one of the deals I found here in Nashville who I later found out owned 17 properties and was and still is a multi-millionaire. I was joking with him and said “you wouldn’t want to give away the farm and teach someone” to which he replied, “I don’t mind teaching people”. Many of the techniques I learned from him I still use today and we still stay in contact.

Of course, I do have other mentors now for several things besides Real Estate. One of my favorite sayings is “if you don’t know where you are going, how can you get there? I guess the point here is that this road isn’t meant to be traveled alone. If you don’t have a mentor you are bound to get stuck on the track so go find one now if you don’t have one and take action!!!
